Precalculus: Investigation of End Behavior

by Texas Instruments

Overview

Students use a scenario to begin their investigation of end behavior. In this scenario, students make a prediction about what they think will happen as more football players choose to order pizza. Students will hypothesize that the cost will go down as more players decide to order.

Key Steps

In Problem 1, students use a scenario to begin their investigation of end behavior. In this scenario, students make a prediction about what they think will happen as more football players choose to order pizza. Students will hypothesize that the cost will go down as more players decide to order.

They enter given data values for the number of players into L1.

In L2, students calculate the cost by entering an expression that describes the problem.

Students will calculate the average cost per player and enter the expression in each cell. They will find that the cost does indeed decrease as more students order pizza.

Students write a general equation, they can then test their equation in L3.

If their calculations are correct, the entries in L2 and L3 will be identical.
