Teaching and Learning With the TI-84 Plus CE Graphing Calculator in Middle Grades Mathematics

Designed for educators who are using the TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator in a middle grades mathematics classroom, this workshop covers basic features and functionality of the TI-84 Plus CE, with additional focus on TI-SmartView™ CE emulator software for the TI-84 Plus graphing family and TI Connect™ CE software application.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll be ready to use the TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator and supporting software in the middle grades mathematics classroom.

Overview

This in-person workshop is available in one-, two- and three-day options to accommodate educator-specific needs. A half-day workshop option is also available. The two- and three-day workshops offer a more extensive exploration of topics. A virtual workshop is also available in multiple two- or three-hour sessions.

  • Overview of the TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator, including an introduction to the MathPrint™ feature and general graphing and statistical functionality.
  • Modeling and analyzing univariate data with box plots and histograms.
  • Overview of TI-SmartView™ CE emulator software and TI Connect™ CE software.

  • Additional coverage of features for modeling with multiple representations.
  • Exploration of interactive lessons that make connections between ratios, proportional relationships and linear functions.
  • Data collection and analysis with the CBR™ 2 motion sensor and Vernier EasyData® app.
workshop-3-day
  • Deeper coverage of additional technology features, with an emphasis on classroom applications.
  • Opportunities to explore activities focused on statistics, probability and geometry.
  • Coverage of additional statistical functionality, including entering data into lists, creating scatter plots, and determining lines of best fit.
